What was Karyn going to do? If she tried to rush them, she might get cut and turn into an emo girl too, and that would do no good. But if she did nothing, then Allison would become another of Derek's victims.
She didn't like those options, so she picked a third.
"Allison! Don't let her cut you. You'll become like them!" she yelled.
Allison used Karyn's distraction to move further away from her former friend Melissa. But she was still trapped between the three emos.
"Allison! Get out of there!"
"I can't! I'm trapped!" She was scared, looking from one emo to the next, realizing that if she got cut, she'd become just like them.
This wasn't going the way Karyn wanted. She thought that Allison would be able to escape, but it looked like that wasn't going to happen. At least, not without Karyn's help.
So, she decided to risk it. She ran towards Steve and pushed him on the ground. He broke into a crying fit, something very un-Steve-like. Derek's turned them into sissies, Karyn thought.
"Look out!" Allison yelled.
Jon was trying to cut her with his black razor. But Allison's warning caused Karyn to jump out of the way. She fell on the floor, scuffing her hands. "Ow!" But it was better than the alternative.
Karyn looked around at the scene. Steve was still crying, Jon and Melissa were approaching her, ready to cut her, and Allison was ... wait, where was Allison? Apparently, during Karyn's attempt to rescue her, Allison used the opportunity to flee ... and leave Karyn to her fate. Well, there was gratitude for ya. But what did she expect from a friend of Sarah McMillan?
"Jon, you don't want to do this," Karyn said, hoping that she could get through to him. Surely, the Jon she'd grown up with was still in there somewhere. Right?
"But I do want to. Soon you'll understand."
"We'll get rid of your fake happiness soon enough," Melissa said, still moving closer.
Karyn glanced over at Steve. He was still crying. She didn't want to become like that.
