I think there's nothing wrong with second-guessing your chapters. If you want to make alternative plotlines, feel free! I always look forward to seeing your ideas.
I've been considering branching, too, just to try out stuff. I've had the setting of Jon's new reality mostly mapped out in my head, and I've been trying to reveal it bit by bit as the story progresses (many surprises await). The balance, of course, is that I'm trying not to hijack the plot and force a setting incompatible with the characters and situations previously developed.
Meanwhile, I was wondering, do you have a goal or aspect you are working towards?
