Almost an hour before school started, Leonard walked onto the school grounds. His neighbor Jon ran past him, seemingly in a big hurry. After he accidentally bumped into Leonard, Jon turned around for a second and yelled sorry and then kept running until he met up with a girl. Karyn was her name, Leonard believed.
At least there's someone around here that isn't a complete jerk, Leonard thought, then he walked into the school. He looked around for Richard, one of his friends (one of his two friends, actually) and when he found him, he said "I know this sounds weird, but have you seen Sarah McMillan?"
"What's weird about it? It's not like you've never asked about her before."
Huh? I've never asked about her before, Leonard thought, not realizing that anyone that didn't hear his wish thought that the new reality was normal.
"She's in the library. Probably studying up for the big exam."
"Oh." Leonard then made his way to the library, one of the last places he'd ever think he'd see Sarah McMillan.
The place was nearly deserted. But, of course, it was still early. Most people didn't get to school until about ten or fifteen minutes before the start of their class. In the center of the room, he could see a girl with the same hair color and style as Sarah's, from the vision Leonard had earlier. But her face was hidden behind stacks of books.
"Sarah?"
The girl leaned to the side and smiled at him, showing a mouth-full of braces. Leonard saw that she was also wearing glasses, which she wasn't wearing in his vision. They had thick lenses in them, adding to her nerdy look.
"Hi, Leonard," she said, happily. "Did you come to study with me?"
