"I wonder what Karyn's up to," a voice that sounded a lot like Jon's said.
"Who said that?" Karyn asked.
There was a pause, then the voice came back. "Hmm, why did I say that?" Then Karyn felt her head shake back and forth, and then felt herself sigh.
What was happening?
"Who's there?" Karyn asked.
"It's me. Jon."
"Jon? Where are you?"
"Right here. I'm in bed. Who are you? Where are you?"
"I'm Karyn. And I'm your bed."
"What? That can't be. Only I'm in my bed."
Karyn's eyes nearly bulged. Suddenly, she realized what was happening. Jon was back ... back in his own body! Her "stone ownership" wish couldn't be reversed, so both she and Jon inhabited the same body!
"Jon, I'm in your body!"
"What? How is that possible?"
Suddenly, Karyn felt awkward. She really didn't want to tell her friend the events that led up to her current situation, about making a decision to alter his memory to think that the stone belonged to her. That kind of betrayal was unforgivable. And since she couldn't separate herself from Jon's body, she'd have to live without Jon's forgiveness every minute of every day until the day she (they) died. She just couldn't tell him the truth. It would be unbearable.
"Well?" Jon asked.
She'd have to lie.
