Downstairs, Sarah McMillan was in a really bad mood. What the hell was wrong with her sister? First, her boyfriend Trevor was acting all weird at school, then Beth totally blows off their mom? Beth was always a little hesitant to do anything her family wanted her to do, but she always gave them the benefit of the doubt. It seemed like she suddenly turned ultra rebellious, seemingly overnight. She even held a certain disdain for Sarah, which seemed to come out of nowhere. Sure, they weren't as close as two sisters might usually be, but this almost seemed like full-on indifference. Did something bad happen at school that she didn't want to tell anyone about? Something so bad that it changed her perception on life?
She walked back to the kitchen to finish her salad, thinking about Beth's odd behavior, when she spotted a piece of garbage on the floor. It was a crumpled-up note - one of those yellow stickies people used to remind them about things.
Earlier, when Athena took her phone out of her pocket, the crumpled-up note came out with it, then fell to the floor. But Athena was so focused on checking her voice mail that she didn't notice.
Sarah picked it up and straightened it out, then had an uncontrollable urge to read it.
