Steve leaned back against the wall a moment longer, watching the "new" Derek walk away. When he got far enough down the hall, he noticed that Derek seemed uncertain of himself, much like how he looked before he decided to beat up on Steve.
How was any of this possible? One moment he was himself and then the next he wasn't. And how did his clothes change so fast? He looked down at his jeans, which were incredibly tight. Were they girl's jeans? What the hell was happening?
But then he remembered that note he found on the floor. All of this seemed to happen right after he read it. Unfortunately, it was sort of a blur as to what it said. But he had the feeling that it had something to do with him ... bullying someone?
He had to find that note and see what it said. So, he ran over to the trash can he threw it into, but it wasn't there. Either someone took it or it was buried under all the other trash. As he bent over looking into the trash can, a strand of hair fell across his eyes. He grabbed it and pulled it away from his face. It was brown, just like normal. But it was longer than it should have been. He pulled it over his ear to keep it out of his face.
Wondering if something else might have been different, Steve decided to take a look at his "new" self. So, he darted towards the nearest boys' restroom, which just happened to be the one that Derek exited just a few minutes before.
The restroom was empty and it was probably a good thing, because Steve almost screamed in shock at what he saw in the mirror. His clothes were exactly the way he saw them out in the hall, but what he couldn't see was the black eyeliner around his eyes or the longer-than-normal hair. He pulled the strand of hair down from over his ear to see how long it was, and saw that it was long enough to just cover his left eye. If it got any longer, he'd almost look exactly like Derek (the normal Derek), only with his face.
It was almost as if they had switched places. But how? Was it the note? Steve didn't know how reading a note could change reality, but somehow it had. He had to find that note and try to fix things. No way was he going to stay as an emo.
