"Well, well. If it isn't Dracula's bride," Yukio said, with a smirk.
"What ... do you ... want?" Melissa asked. It was getting harder and harder to speak English. She had to concentrate a lot, just to form a couple of words.
"You're in my way. That's my locker."
Melissa didn't say anything. She was trying to concentrate on what Yukio was saying. It was English (and she knew English), but it kept sounding like a foreign language to her. It was really hard to explain.
"Do ... you ... speak ... English?" Yukio asked slowly, as she had done before.
"Come on, Melissa. Let's just get out of here," Gladys said.
"Yeah, that's right," Yukio said. "Go run away with Piggy. Run all the way home. All the way back to Transylvania." Yukio laughed at that last bit.
Melissa looked like she was on the verge of crying. But it wasn't because of Yukio's insults, but instead it was because she couldn't understand all of what Yukio was saying. She understood "Piggy" and "Home" and "Transylvania", but the words that connected them were meaningless to her. What was happening to her?
Gladys grabbed Melissa's hand and pulled her away.
