Karen was having a very bad day. She'd been fighting with the school all morning; apparently, they didn't want to allow a transgender case back into the school after she'd been taken out. Karen would have threatened a lawsuit, but the last thing she and Becky needed was more attention. Besides, medical records would have been brought up which clearly showed Becky as male, when she clearly was not now, and it was simply too much trouble.
"She is human too, you can't just refuse a student simply because of a lifestyle choice!" Karen knew Becky wouldn't appreciate the choice of words, but she didn't care right now. "My daughter has as much right to attend this school as anyone else."
The principal, a normally caring woman, just sat back in her chair. "Your... daughter can go to any school, ma'am. It just wouldn't look good for the school to have a unique case like her coming here." Karen was almost shaking in anger, at the nerve of this woman.
"I think it'd look even worse if the school were to refuse a transgender student simply for her condition." She knew it was her own fault for not saying Becky had always been female, but Karen didn't believe in lies; they only made things worse. The principal sighed, staring into her cup of coffee. "You make a good point, Mrs...."
"Connelly." Karen smiled. "Yes. Mrs. Connelly. I know I'm going to regret this, but you can re-enroll her. She'll go back into all of her old classes. You've kept her up-to-date in her studies?"
Karen had her at least a grade ahead by then, but she wasn't going to tell the principal that. "Of course. She'll do just fine in her classes. Thank you so much." The principal nodded, smiling a nauseatingly sweet smile. "Certainly."
She was certainly showing her caring side again now, or pretending to, as she showed Karen out to register Becky for her new life at school as Rebecca Lynn Connelly.
