They came back around two hours later, without Mikey.
"Uhh, hi Dad" said Katie when her parents entered the hall. "Is Mikey...?"
"He's in the hospital," said Ken. "Because he's never been to the doctor at any time during the pregnancy, they want to do more tests, and they also need to teach him what they can about getting ready for the pregnancy and about taking care of a baby afterwards. We figured it would look bad if we told them that he's only eight mentally and that you could do something about it... Uhh, Katie, can you do something about it?"
"You can use the magic stone, can't you?" asked Tina. "Or we can think of..."
"It's okay," said Katie. "We figured something out when you were leaving. I wished to turn him into twins. He has to be my age, but now he's my age when you add the two of them together."
"But what happens to-- our grandchild?" asked Ken. "The baby."
"I wished that the twins are Mikey transformed. I guess it depends on what the stone thinks that means. If he had both transformations, then he turned into a pregnant woman and then into twins, and the baby's okay. If he just turned into twins and it erased the middle transform, then the baby's gone but we can wish it back when he's older and he can take care of it."
"Hmm, that may be for the better," said Ken.
Jon went to his room, or rather, Katie did. There was no way to reverse the sex swap, after all. She looked around again. It occurred to her that she had messed up the wish. She should have changed reality so that she was Jon transformed. People would treat her as Jon turned into a girl, instead of like she had been a girl all along. It was too easy to panic when making wishes....
She looked around while trying to find things that girls her age were supposed to have. Posters of hot guys? She saw a Smallville calendar, which had replaced a Transformers one, and a poster for some band. Pink? There was some. A blouse, a weird looking pink pen that however seemed to have normal ink... Skirts? She had to go rummaging for them, because it wasn't easy to find any. Despite the fact that skirts come to mind when thinking about crossdressing, real women didn't wear a whole lot of them outside of school uniforms and business clothes. Katie sighed; changes in society which started before she was born were making it hard to even angst over being a girl.
Her video games were gone, but she did have a magic stone. It was no problem to wish them back. When she did, however, the room looked a little less feminine. She supposed it was changing reality--if Katie owned a lot of games based on shooting things, that would mean Katie had a more masculine personality, which would affect what her room looks like. Katie wondered what would happen if she wished up some posters of attractive women? Or her original porn stash?
In the end, Katie went to bed. Though not without wondering if she was supposed to take her bra off first.
RING!!!
Katie's mother Ken answered her cell phone. After a bit of talking, she explained. "Katie, Zoe, we have to go now. Mikey could give birth any minute... Katie, I really hope that wish works. I'd offer for you guys to come even if you have to stay in the waiting room, but with that wish it won't matter."
They soon left and Katie and Zoe sat around awkwardly, waiting for something to happen. Just when they were ready to get up and walk away, Mikey appeared in front of them, looking just like the old Mikey. And there were two of him. Both of them looked surprised and had to catch themselves--against each other, it turned out--to avoid falling. Which wasn't surprising since they had been one person, lying down, just a moment ago.
Katie looked around and saw her parents just behind her. They were gaping. "It worked!" explained Katie. "Right? If Mikey only transformed once, he's not at the hospital and there's no baby. Mikey, how are you feeling?"
The two children both tried to answer. "I'm..." and looked at each other. Katie expected them to say the exact same thing but they didn't, quite; the one on the left said "Who are you?" and the one on the right said "You're me!"
"Mikey, sit down, both of you, please," said Ken. "Katie has something to explain. Right, Katie?" She frowned at Katie. "Right now."
They went into the living room and Katie did her best to explain. "Mikey, you had to be 17. It was magic. We figured out the answer... two people of your original age are 17 combined."
Both Mikeys were about to speak but the one on the left spoke first. "So I have a brother?"
Katie grinned. "I don't know if you do or not..." The Mikeys looked confused. Katie had after all been put in this situation by Mikey in the first place, so there was a certain amount of glee when she explained, "You also had to be female. Girls look a lot like boys at your age and you don't have any different hair or clothes to mess it up. So one of you is a girl and I have no idea who it is because you both look just the same."
"Are we twins?" asked the other one.
"Oh, no," said Katie. You're Mikey. You remember being one person... I guess that means one of you is a girl who remembers being a boy... and everyone else remembers one of you too. You'll have to tell people that you got split in two. I wished that they'll believe you. Mom, Dad, you know I think we need to figure out who the girl is and give her a name just so we have something to call her...."
