It is "natural" that there would be spying. That, however, does not mean Lucas has to be happy about it or to accept it once she found out about it. Especially if it were foreign spying, as, for Lucas, it was. A country that did not attack other innocent countries has a right to sovereignty that is absolute. A person that did not attack other innocent people has rights to privacy, etc. that are also absolute. Of course, these rights would, naturally, be broken in-story, but, just as naturally, Lucas would be furious about it and react like she did. I said it in several e-mails that the General may have his "fair" points, even though what he did was horribly unethical (and even though Lucas wouldn't really care about his reasons; he breached the rights of civilians, that's all that matters for her).

Story-wise, I agree with you, Chompy, on several points, but that's not the matter here.

The part I do take personally was the one where it was stated by Fastpilot that in real life it was okay to coup out South American leaders during the Cold War, that meaningless spat that cost millions of lives.

A good part of the discussion here turned into real-life politics with a real-life person that believes democracy in countries outside the US should be contingent to the US leadership agreeing with the leaders of said countries. And this view is completely unacceptable. And people who hold this view are, yes, beyond contempt.
