Biff stumbled in the heels as Dr. McMillan led them out into a corridor that looked like many of the ones that Biff and Sarah had seen in movies. Sarah offered her arm to Biff to steady him as they were led over to their counterparts who were waiting for them, Biffanie and Sarrah.
Dr. McMillan led them out into a corridor that looked like many of the ones that Biff and Sarah had seen in movies and standing near the room, waiting for them, were Biffanie and Sarrah.
Sarrah was leaning against the wall wearing a Lake Point High letterwoman’s jacket, while Biffanie was checking hys makeup in a compact mirror. Sarrah gave Biffanie a gentle nudge in the arm and Biffanie looked up.
“Ooh!” hei squealed excitedly, snapping the mirror shut and causing Biff and Sarah to cringe at the sound of hys voice. It was a low, masculine voice and yet melodic at the same time. “You actually look pretty good, Biff.” Hei strutted over to hys counterpart and looked hym up and down. “You could do with some makeup,” hei noted. “But we can work on that.”
Sarrah got off the wall and nodded at Sarah.
“Hey, I’m Sarrah.”
“Um, hi,” Sarah replied, unsure as to what to make of her alternate self. She looked more like a boy than a girl. Plus, hearing a version of her name that sounded like it almost rhymed with “car” rather than “share” was so weird.
“Sarrah, Biffanie,” Dr. McMillan addressed the two natives, “one thing you are going to have to do is give them new names. ‘Sarah’ and ‘Biff’ are going to get them a lot of strange looks, and we can’t have that.”
Biff gave the scientist a side-eye. Biffanie looked at Sarrah, seemingly a little more excited about this idea than hys boifriend.
“Ooh,” hei squealed. “You were right, Sarrah… This is just like having my own Kinnabelle doll!”
“Kinna…what?” Biff asked.
“Kinnabelle,” Biffanie repeated. “You know, as in Kinnabelle and Barb?” Hei looked at Biff expectantly, but he just gave hym a blank look but Sarah piped up.
“Oh, you mean… like Barbie and Ken? I used to play with dolls when I was a little girl.”
Sarrah and Biffanie stared at her in disbelief. A gurl playing with dolls? That was unthinkable. The differences between our worlds must run really deep, Sarah thought.
“This is just too weird,” Biff grumbled and Sarah nodded in agreement.
While this exchange took place, Dr. McMillan had been signing some last-minute documents before the lab closed for the weekend. Shi waved away the assistant and looked at hir watch.
“Yes… Well, you’re going to have to get used to it,” Dr. McMillan told them, sounding frustrated. “Come on, we’d better get you two home.” Shi led them towards the elevator.
