Dr McMillan’s lab looked like it belonged in a science fiction movie. There were rows of computer monitors and lots of machinery with flashing lights lining the walls. On the opposite side of the lab, against the far wall, stood a row of four circular test chambers. Standing to the side of the entrance, flanked by some of Dr. McMillan’s assistants stood a group of serious looking businesswomen in sharp suits.
As they entered the laboratory, Biffanie looked nervous; hei was a boi in a room full of women, and hei looked very out of place. Hei could tell that some of the women were wondering why hei was even there, while others were obviously undressing hym with their eyes. Biffanie gave them a weak smile as hei fingered hys pink pleated skirt nervously. Sarrah took hys hand and gave it a gentle squeeze, and Biffanie felt reassured that, if anything was going to happen to hym, Sarrah would be there to protect hym.
Dr. McMillan motioned for them to stand still while shi addressed the women in suits.
“Gentlewomen! Sorry to keep you waiting but as you know today we begin the human trials. Here are our two brave volunteers, I’m sure that you all know my dawter Sarrah and hir boifriend Biffanie.” There was a polite round of applause as a couple of the women that Sarrah recognized nodded in hir direction, while others looked a little displeased that a boi was in the room.
One of the scientists approached Dr. McMillan and whispered into hir ear. After a few minutes, shi nodded and waved the assistant away. “Well, it looks like we’re ready to begin,” Dr. McMillan clapped hir hands excitedly before motioning to Biffanie and Sarrah.
“Sarrah, Biffanie… If you’re ready, please step into the chambers.” Biffanie and Sarrah nodded in acknowledgement, although Biffanie was a little hesitant. Sarrah gave hys hand another little squeeze before an assistant approached the both of them and directed them into their respective chambers.
The assistant told Sarrah to stand against the wall, and shi watched as the woman fastened two metal restraints around hir wrists and another two around hir ankles. The woman then checked to make sure that shi was secure before stepping out of the chamber and signaling to Dr. McMillan, who was just out of sight. Sarrah could only see the businesswomen. Shi assumed Biffanie was going through the same thing.
The women in suits looked on as the chamber started to hum and fill up with light. Once the cloning device had built up enough energy, Sarrah was forced to close hir eyes as the chamber filled with a bright light and shi felt a surge of energy flow through hir.
Shi didn’t know how long shi had been standing there, but eventually the light started to dim, and the device sounded like it was powering down. Shi blinked a few times as shi opened hir eyes but everything was blurry. Shi could just make out an assistant standing by hir, unbuckling the restraints.
“Did it work?” shi asked the assistant, but the woman ignored hir. Shi looked up and saw the businesswomen standing there looking shocked. Once the restraints were off, Sarrah attempted to exit the chamber, but shi fell to hir knees, feeling weak.
“That’s an expected side effect,” Dr. McMillan explained as Sarrah struggled to escape the chamber. “It should wear off eventually, and your vision will soon return.” Shi looked to hir left and saw Biffanie in a similar position on hys knees, looking scared. Sarrah tried standing up and struggled over to hym.
“Well, I must say, Dr. McMillan,” one of the businesswomen was saying, “your machine certainly works, even if the results are, um, somewhat unexpected.”
“What do you mean? Unexpected?” Sarrah asked as shi tried helping hir boifriend to stand up. Hir vision had started to clear by now and shi looked towards hir mothir.
“Take a look for yourself,” shi suggested, motioning to the other chamber. Sarrah turned and looked at the chamber and gasped.
