Jon opened the door, but all he saw was a reflection of himself. "That's it?" he asked. "You can make doorways into mirrors?"
"No," said Karyn, although not too convinced herself. "It says, 'create a doorway to change.'"
"I don't know what that means."
"Nor do I."
"Good. This is a good first spell," Jon smirked, looking from Karyn to the mirror. He turned away to grab a pair of jeans hanging from the bedroom door handle, throwing his hands up in exasperation.
Karyn inhaled. "Did you see that?"
"What? No."
"Your finger, it went through the mirror. And it rippled "
"My finger?"
"Yes your finger rippled No, the surface of the mirror you dweeb. It was like dropping a pebble in a pond."
Jon hadn't seen anything, but Karyn hurried over to the mirror and slowly moved her finger towards the mirror. Her finger broke the surface of the mirror, sending a small ripple through the silver surface.
"See!"
"Wait, what's that?" Jon moved closer to the other side of the mirror and saw what could only be the tip of Karyn's finger. "Dude, that is weird. Hey, push you finger through a little bit more."
She did, and even more of her index finger came through.
"Does it look any different?" Karyn wanted to know.
"Not that I see. Why would it?"
"Don't you remember, the spellbook said, 'create a doorway to change'?"
"Ah yes. Well, let's change something." And without another word Jon threw himself through the silver lining of what was once his closet door.
Before Karyn could even yell after him, Jon reemerged from the mirror, facing the other direction, and nearly bowling Karyn over.
