Jon was about to say something, but fell silent when he saw Zoe reach into her pocket and pull out ... the stone!
He stared for a moment, then said "Where ... where did you get that?"
Zoe looked down at the stone in her hand and said "I have your life for the day, remember? That means I have to live in your room, as disgusting as that is. I found this stone on the nightstand. I thought it looked kind of interesting, so I brought it to school with me. What's the big problem?"
It sounded like she didn't know it was a wishing stone. Which was good. But who knew how long that would last? Jon had to get it away from her before she discovered she could make wishes come true.
Jon looked at Karyn, who looked back at him the same way. It appeared that Karyn felt the same way about Zoe having the stone. If Jon couldn't get the stone back, maybe Karyn would. But someone had to do it.
