"I wish they didn't care if I was gay," Jon said, thinking that it would get them off his back about being friends with Karyn. But the moment he finished the sentence, he realized his mistake, of course.
In this case, however, Jon's parents were his mom, and his dad, now turned into a butch lesbian. He recalled his original mom saying "So it's OK because we're lesbians, but not for Jon?"
Of course, if Jon was a lesbian too, instead of a gay man, they wouldn't care. Jon suddenly felt something on his chest--not weights, but breasts. His hair stayed short just like his dad's did, and he still felt himself attracted to women. When he walked his balance seemed slightly off. Jon turned and went back upstairs to his room to get ready for school. Most of it was the same--obviously, two lesbians might not raise a girl in traditional gender roles. Yet on the other hand, Jon knew almost nothing about lesbians. A girl could be interested in anything a guy was, but they might not be.
There were a few differences. Smaller shoes. And dresses and lipstick were there if he looked, but they obviously hadn't been used much.
Jon sat down and considered how to reverse the wish. He could wish to be male again, but he'd probably end up being a gay man. He didn't think that was better, and possibly, it was worse. Maybe a bisexual man, if bisexual counted as a kind of "gay"--but Jon wasn't sure it did. There really wasn't any safe way to fix the wish that he could think of.
So he'd have to go to school and think about the wish later. He didn't know much about lesbians, but it looked like he was going to find out.
