She couldn't believe it was working. Sure, the website had said that the first few steps would be simple and easy, but Shannon had spent so long being under Alan's thumb that she was sure she wouldn't get away with it. There she was, however, not at Alan's mercy, but rather at the beginning of what was sure to be the best revenge she ever imagined. And to think, if she hadn't stumbled across that website that afternoon, none of it would have been possible.
Just as she'd hoped, Alan had come home late that day, giving her plenty of time to get things ready. The concoction of chemicals the website had suggested she use were easy enough to locate, most of which she found at the local pharmacy. Since she knew her husband's habits so well, she had stopped and picked up a case of his favourite beer on the way home, taking great pleasure in the fact that something that brought Alan so much joy would be the first step in his downfall.
She'd been home for thirty minutes before Alan pulled up, and had just finished mixing the chemicals in the kitchen. Zoe had asked to eat supper with her friend Athena that night, and Jon was upstairs helping Mikey with his homework, giving Shannon all the time she needed. After dosing a bottle of beer, hoping that the taste would be effectively masked, she met her husband in the living room.
The smug look on his face as she handed him the beer unbidden was enough to cement her resolve. The asshole deserved everything he got, and then some. She didn't wait to see if he wanted another, but instead hurried off to grab two more, only pausing to dose them as she had the first. Arriving just in time to see the smug jerk place his empty in front of him on the coffee table, she handed him a full one, wondering how long it would take for the chemicals to kick in.
As it turned out, not long at all. Alan chugged his second beer and turned on the television, eyes beginning to glaze over. Grinning, Shannon took the empty, replaced it with the third dosed beer, and walked toward the kitchen to get ready for the next step that the website had told her about. Just before she left the room she could see Alan's hand snake into his pants and begin to itch his groin, then, with his other hand, reached and grabbed the third beer.
It wouldn't be long now.
The website had told her about the itchy groin, that it was a sign for her to prepare the next step. Some sort of side-effect of the chemicals, not harmful, but helpful as it turns out. She grabbed the iPod that she'd loaded with the mp3 called "Step One" that had been recommended to her. Returning to the living room, she found an empty beer bottle laying next to her husband, who, for the unknowing eye, looked passed out.
Putting the earbuds in his ears, she felt a giddy rush as she pressed play on the iPod, making sure that the mp3 was on repeat. Then, picking up the beer bottle, she let her husband "sleep", and returned to the kitchen. There was, after all, nothing to do at this point but wait.
