Author's note: I know it's a minor detail but Jon's dad is usually called Roger and so for consistency I decided to change it.
Roger opened the door and smiled. It was his wife Linda. "Hi honey!" He said beaming at her. He pecked Linda on the cheek as she entered the house.
Linda sighed as she put down her suitcase and took off her jacket.
"How was work today?" Roger asked as he took his wife's jacket and hung it up on the coat rack.
"Rough." She said wearily as she entered the living room and then collapsed on the sofa.
Roger felt sorry for her. He sat down next to her and hugged her as Linda turned on the TV.
"Tell me about it." He said as he rested his head on her chest.
Linda settled on a sports news channel and then started to tell her husband about her day.
"You know that meeting that I had with a client at 10?" She asked as Roger nodded listening. "Well it turns out they cancelled and only decided to tell me as I was halfway there."
"No?" Roger asked surprised and shocked. Linda nodded.
"And then it turns out my secretary had called in ill today so we had to find someone to cover for him and the temp was awful."
"Oh honey. You poor thing." Roger said soothingly, stroking Linda's short hair.
Linda sighed. "You what honey?" She said. "Sometimes I think you have it easier." She said looking at her husband.
Roger sat up. "Oh I do do I?" He asked.
"Yeah," Linda replied. "All you have to do is clean the house and look after the kids."
Roger folded his arms across his chest. "That's not all I do around here." He said.
Linda gulped knowing that she had crossed a line. "I know that honey." She said quickly.
"What I meant was that sometimes I think it would be easier to clean the house than having to go and meet clients all day."
Roger laughed. "Well I would certainly appreciate it if you helped around the house more."
"Hey!" Linda said looking hurt. "I do my fair share." She said.
"No," Roger replied smiling at his wife. "All you do is now the lawn and take out the trash."
Linda laughed and held her hands up in defeat. "Ok, ok." She said chuckling. "I promise I'll help out around the house more." She said. Linda pulled Roger in close and kissed him on the lips.
After the kiss which left Roger feeling a little flustered Linda turned her attention back to the TV.
Roger then headed back to the kitchen to get dinner ready.
