Saber Johnson was glad for once to see school fire back up on Monday morning. It was a chance to see her good friend Lucy Corinth, who ever since Tuesday had been a little...off.
Hearing her best friend describe some strange world where everything was upside-down and suddenly she was here in some weird reality where girls didn't have breasts and she wasn't a cheerleader made her feel like she was in an episode of The Twilight Zone. Girls? Breasts!? It didn't make sense, but she knew Lucy wasn't one to lie. Sure, maybe she'd seen one too many an episode of Star Trek, but this was bizarre.
Seeing Lucy leaning against the fence outside the school was a relief. "Hey Lucy... How was your weekend?" She wore a simple novelty tee and cargo shorts, something a week ago she would never have been caught wearing.
"An adjustment, like everything else," she sighed. "Some things I appreciate, but I just want...normalcy."
"I can't imagine. Well, maybe I could if I was on Star Trek and found myself in my own Mirror Universe," she quipped with knowledge she didn't have at this time last week. "I've been trying to think of where this could have come from or how it worked."
"Well, you told me you heard this wish and then it came true?"
"Yeah. That was something I never thought would happen in my life. I mean, I appreciate some things from it, but..."
"I gotta be honest, I couldn't imagine having a period like boys do," Saber chuckled. "We should probably head to our classes." The two had four of their classes together (but not first period), which was normally nice and gave Lucy someone to talk to who wouldn't think she was crazy.
"But how far does this go? I mean, everything on TV's changed, right? Then the whole world could have been affected," Lucy worried as she reached the point to head to the locker room. "See you next class," she concluded with a wave.
Saber waved back at Lucy and walked into her history class. She knew a few people in here, like Karyn Anderson, Erin Lindell and that Goth boy Miranda Shale. Social studies, though, was kind of a dry class, and it didn't help that this wasn't Saber's favorite era in American history. Just thinking about Jane Crow laws made her shudder. She briefly dozed off during class, thinking about those cute USS Enterprise crew men in their short skirts.
