"I wish," said Lara, "that you didn't have to wait any longer to get your SRS surgery."
Jon immediately blacked out. He couldn't tell how long the darkness lasted. Occasionally he thought he heard voices, but they were always quiet and indistinct like they were come from a great distance.
Slowly Jon began to regain consciousness. He could tell he was lying down, but it didn't feel like his bed at home and the smell of the room was strange. There was also a strange numbness coming from his groin.
Jon opened his eyes. He could tell right away that he was in a hospital room. He could see through the windows that it was dark outside, but he couldn't tell what time it was. He saw his mom asleep in a chair nearby. Despite just waking up Jon was still tired and he slowly drifted back to sleep.
When he next woke it was morning. His mom wasn't in the chair where he'd seen her the night before. He was beginning to move about some when the door to his room opened and in walked his mom and a woman dressed in a white lab coat.
"Good morning Jen." said the woman who was obviously a doctor.
Jon's Mom pulled chair over next to his bed and sat in it holding his hand.
"How are you feeling this morning?" the doctor asked.
Jon thought about it for a moment before replying. "I'm a little sore and it kind of feels like I'm sitting on a tennis ball."
The doctor laughed at that briefly before catching herself. "Sorry. That is just the swelling. It will go down soon. You surgery yesterday went really well. There were no complications at all. Do you have any questions for me before I go?"
There were a million questions going through Jon's mind but none that he wanted to ask the doctor. "No, ma'am." he answered.
"Okay. I'll have one of the nurses come in shortly and explain your post-op regimen and demonstrate how to use the dilators." the doctor said before making a quick note on his chart and then leaving the room.
