A few minutes later, Jennifer got a call on her cell phone.
"Hello?" she asked.
"Hey, Jennifer."
Jennifer didn't recognize the voice. It wasn't Karyn.
"Uh, who is this?"
"Jennifer, it's me. Erika. The connection isn't that bad. Is it?"
Erika. Yeah, Jennifer knew an Erika. Erika Greene was part of the cheerleader squad, although not a close friend to Sarah McMillan. Could this be that Erika?
"Uh, no. I guess not. What did you call me for?"
She paused for a second, then said "I just wondered why you didn't meet me and the girls at the mall like we planned."
"Oh ... uh ... I was ..."
"Are you okay, Jennifer?"
"Yeah." She paused for a moment. "Listen, I'll be there. Just give me a few minutes."
"Kay, bye."
Jennifer put down her cell phone. What exactly did she just do? Without thinking much, she apparently accepted an invitation to go shopping with people she didn't even know, or didn't know well.
But something about the idea of shopping (not necessarily buying anything) appealed to her. In fact, her feelings towards shopping were similar to her feelings towards playing video games when she was Jon.
So, it was decided. Next stop: the mall.
