The next day after school, Sarah showed up at cheerleading tryouts, as usual.
"Ugh, what's she doing here?" Melissa Smith (one of the cheerleaders) said.
"She wants to try out," Amber Levine (another cheerleader) said.
"Why bother?" Jessica Davis (another cheerleader) said sourly. "She already tried out tons of times before and she's always terrible at it. The girl is like a total moron or something. Doesn't she see that she'll never be better?"
Sarah sat on the bleachers, waiting for her umpteenth chance to try out for the squad. She did the routine at home and she was perfect. If only she could do the same here for the official tryout. She took a deep breath, calming herself. The problem was that she didn't do very well in public. But if she just focused on the routine and ignored the fact that she was doing it in front of a crowd, maybe she could show these girls what she could do. (Unfortunately for her, though, thanks to Jon's wish, that would never happen.)
She closed her eyes and concentrated on the routine in her head, then she heard her name called. "Okay, here I go," she whispered to herself, then stood up from the bleachers and ran out to the field.
