Sarah opened the door, expecting to see Zoe standing on the doorstep, but her heart sank when she saw that it was someone else.
"Hi, Sarah," the person said. It was her mom. She must have just gotten back from the mall, because there were several shopping bags hanging from her hands. Sarah's parents knew nothing about her love for Zoe and for the moment, she wanted to keep it that way. Her mother looked at Sarah with confused eyes. "What are you wearing? Is that black?"
"Uh ... yeah. I ... uh ..." She paused for a moment, trying to think of what to say. Why was this happening to her? Her date with Zoe hadn't even started yet and she was already having problems. "Are you going upstairs?" she finally asked her mother, as she walked into the house.
"Yeah, why?"
"Uh ... no reason."
"Sarah, why are you acting so nervous? What's going on?"
Sarah was about to say something, but something caught her eye. It was Zoe! She was walking along the street towards the house. She was still far enough down the road, but she'd be there in no time at all. She had to get rid of her mother. She couldn't risk having her see Zoe and her together.
"Sarah?" her mom asked.
