The next day, Sarah went about her morning as usual, putting on her attractive preppy clothing, getting picked up by her boyfriend Biff Meadows, and joining her cheerleader friends at school for their usual morning gossip session. But all throughout her early morning routine, she only thought about two things: Jon and Karyn, and how she wanted to be friends with them. On the ride to school, she continually compared Biff to Jon, knowing that Jon was much more desirable. And when she gossiped with the other cheerleaders, she continually thought about Karyn and how she'd rather be talking and gossiping with her instead.
"Sarah? Are you okay?" Melissa Smith (one of the cheerleaders) asked.
"Huh?"
"You were sort of spaced out there for a minute. You're not bored by us, are you?" Melissa asked, frowning with disapproval and disappointment.
"What? No," she lied. The need to be friends with Jon and Karyn was practically killing her. She needed to stop this charade with the cheerleaders and Biff and just do what she wanted. But she felt pressured. She wasn't sure if Karyn and Jon would accept her. She treated them so badly. But that was only because she was expected to. She was part of the popular crowd and more importantly, she was a cheerleader. And all the cheerleaders treated people like that. If Sarah didn't also, then she might get kicked off the squad. And she really didn't want that to happen. She really liked being a cheerleader.
What was she going to do?
