"Well, would it be possible to talk to you aloe for a moment about that Ms. Wilmingham?" Jon made a show of turning to Tiffany and ruffling his hair with the hand she wasn't clinging to. "It was suppossed to be a sort of surprise."

"Jon, what is this about?" Stephanie crossed her arms, narrowing her eyes at the news, She had immediately thought of Jon buying a ring and asking Karyn for Tiffany's hand in marriage. "Careful Jon, mom looks angrier than I've seen her in a long time." Jon turned to see one of his older sisters. He wasn't sure if it was Melissa or Christine, but she was an attractive young Asian woman with many of the current Stephanie's features.
"Calm down everyone!" Karyn spoke over the crowd. She eyed the room, demanding their attention. "I should have considered there was a reason you were being secretive about things back at school. I didn't realize this was some kind of secret."
"I could have been more clear about what was going on." Jon replied. He still wasn't sure which way he'd go with things, but he couldn't make a wish with so many people around anyway. He could still say this was part of a surprise for Tiffany a few days away, and deal with any repercussions that caused once Tiffany was no longer his girlfriend. If he didn't chicken out he wanted to be alone with Karyn for the wish restoring her memories, and to talk with a no doubt angry woman after.
"My apologies Jon. I don't think it's too much to ask for some privacy to discuss whatever this is." Karyn glared at Stephanie and Tiffany, making it clear they were not to intrude. She still had that feeling she needed to find out what Jon was really up to, and having him feel comfortable in a safe environment would help.
"Could we talk about it in my room?" Jon offered, pointing toward where he had learned his room was in this new house.
"Inviting your girlfriend's mom to your room instead of your girlfriend? You are a strange one Jon. Or is this part of your plan?" Karyn teased, laughing at the flustered look on Jon and Tiffany's faces.
"Mom! Stop being gross!" Tiffany yelled, feeling like she could die from embarrassment.
"I'm only having some fun Tiffany." Karyn put her hands up trying to reassure her daughter.
"Keep the door open Jon." Stephanie growled, her daughters slowly backing away.
"Oh Stephanie, really? You've raised a respectable boy, and he wouldn't do anything. You should know after all these years when I'm joking too."
"We did just get back from Mrs. Brewer's house." Jon thought Stephanie's bad mood from earlier was influencing her tolerance for jokes.
"Could have said something about that before I poked the bear." Karyn looked to Stephanie's daughters and Jon. "No wonder you're so tense Steph. Look, we're just going to talk for a bit."
"Fine, but it is getting late, and tomorrow is a school day. Try not to make it too long." Stephanie sighed, realizing she had overreacted.
With that Jon led the way to his room. He opened the door and let Karyn in first. It was meant to be a show of etiquette for an older woman. It still felt odd how natural it was becoming to think of Karyn that way. They had spent hours and hours in his room in their old lives. It used to feel as natural as breathing. Now as Jon debated internally if he should make her aware or not the tension was thick enough to cut with a knife.

"Or is this something more serious? You seemed desperate this afternoon. I haven't seen someone look that lonely in a long time." Karyn softened a little, trying to coax out the truth.

'I have to decide now. Do I let Karyn in on the wish or keep going it alone? What will she think if I do it? How do I phrase a wish to make her aware, but still able to live with whatever changes happen around and to her without her losing it like me?' Jon thought. He'd come to one of the hardest decisions of his life. As Karyn stared at him expectently he put his hand in his pocket. He felt the rock, but agonized over the choice.
