Who is this redheaded, freckled woman with Dad?, thought Jon. Did Dad come out of the closet, divorce her, and marry Mom, who's now male?
Jon glanced at the picture again. He had been so shocked by the strange woman that he hadn't noticed that he and Zoe had clearly become that woman's biological children. Everything about them was the same as in the picture before the change except for a few details: red hair, freckles, paler skin, upturned noses, more prominent chins ... Jon looked at his arms. They were fair and freckly. He couldn't see his hair, but he bet it was red now. I've become my own half-brother, thought Jon. Brother ... no! Where's Mikey? Did Dad divorce this woman before Mikey's counterpart in this new reality would have been born? Is Mikey nonexistent, or has he been born into another family? Jon squeezed the stone. "I wish I knew what happened to Mikey."
