Jon left his bedroom to do a little exploring. He checked in on his sister Zoe. She was a Goth girl, just like always, so no change there. Then he checked in on his little brother Mikey. He was the same too. Then he checked in on his mom, and that's when things got a little weird.
When he entered his parents' bedroom, he noticed that almost everything in the room was gender-neutral. And a moment later, he discovered that his mom was gender-neutral as well.
"Mom?"
She turned towards him. It was her face, so it was his mother. But her hair was so short, her breasts were much smaller, and her body more masculine. She looked like she was half-way between a man and a woman.
"Yes, Jon?" It was her voice, but it sounded deeper, like she had gone from an alto to a tenor.
"Where's Dad?"
"Oh, he's working late again. He probably won't get home until after midnight."
While she was talking, Jon spotted a photo of his parents. They looked just like they usually did. Did something happen to them since the photo was taken?
"Mom, I know this sounds strange, but could you tell me why you're gender-neutral?"
His mother had an odd expression. "Jon, the accident only happened a year ago. Have you forgotten already?"
"Accident?" Jon asked.
"Yes. The accident that caused both your father and I to become the same sex. Don't you remember? It all happened because ..."
