"Look," said Pete, "maybe I'm not expressing myself right but you shouldn't pick apart every word I say. I do love you, Jon. I mean it. I was only trying to compliment you."
"I... I don't know," said Jon. He let out a deep sigh. He was aware, anyway, that the whole thing was his wish. Pete wasn't really in a relationship with him, not until a moment ago. It wasn't his fault if he tried talking to Jon and got a little awkward about it. Jon put him in the whole situation to begin with. Even if Pete was feeding Jon lines, it was all Jon's doing.
At least they had had sex first. Jon had gotten that part of the wish. But now he didn't know what to do.
Of course, the thing to do when he didn't know what to do was to talk to Karyn. Yet he wanted Karyn to think his altered body and his relationship with Pete was normal. Still, he could tell her the non-magic parts.
"Karyn," he explained at lunch, "Pete said some weird things to me yesterday. I can't tell if he's just trying to say the right thing and said the wrong thing instead, or if he was lying about his feelings to get into my pants and finally said something so silly I caught him. What do you think?"
