"What?" said Karyn, looking where Jon indicated.
"I could swear I saw something... There was a guy there, I know it, and he just disappeared."
"I don't see anything," replied Karyn.
"That wish couldn't have done anything," said Jon. "You know, everyone's descended from women already. I mean, do you know anyone who doesn't have a woman as an ancestor? All the wish could have done was make human beings the dominant species, and we already are! Yet I could swear I saw a guy disappear."
"Jon... you're not making fun of me, are you?"
"No, I really saw the guy disappear. I'm going to get to the bottom of this." Taking the stone from Karyn, Jon said "I wish the two of us know how my wish worked."
A voice rung out from the air, "Your wish made human beings the dominant species on the Earth."
"But we already are!" said Jon. "I wish we knew how this made a man disappear."
The voice spoke again. "Humans were not already the dominant species on Earth. The Earth's governments were secretly controlled by space aliens from the planet Xvart, located many light years away. They allowed humans to stay mostly unharmed, if given mineral and water rights, a hundred human slaves a year, and if the governments limited technology to prevent certain devices from being invented that may threaten them. The man who disappeared was a Xvart agent."
"You've got to be kidding!" said Jon.
"But it does explain how the dominant species could be descended from women. So I just saved the world! Congratulate me, Jon!"
"I think we're in trouble," said Jon. "You may have saved the world, but if that's all true... what about the rest of the space people? The stone affects the whole world... but the space people are from another world. The ones in outer space will notice that their invaders all disappeared. Besides, what about the devices they didn't let us invent? Are they now invented? Could I go inside and find that I have a 3 dimensional TV set and everyone thinks it was always there?"
"Jon, that stuff only happens in sci-fi."
"So do wishes."
"I'm gonna check. You can come inside if you want."
When Jon entered from the porch, he found that there were, in fact, some new inventions around. In fact, right in the living room was...
