Jon held the phone to his ear and someone answered on the other end.
"Hello? Who is this?"
"Grandpa! You're alive!"
"Jon? How did you get my number?"
"I used the stone you gave me."
There was silence for a moment.
"Grandpa?" Jon asked, getting worried that he might have lost the connection.
"Jon, how do you know about the stone? I haven't sent it to you yet."
"What are you talk ..." Jon stopped, as he realized what was happening. His grandfather wasn't alive, and this phone call wasn't completely in the present. Somehow the stone allowed him to call into the past, to sometime before his grandfather sent him the stone ... to sometime before his grandfather died. "Grandpa, I'm calling from the future."
"I figured as much."
"Listen, something's going to happen to you. You're ..."
"Jon, quiet," his grandfather snapped. "The less I know about my future, the better. Time is not something you want to mess with."
"But ..."
"No buts, Jon. Now, you called for a reason. What is it?"
