For the next couple hours, the two of them worked on slowly activating Jon's powers. He was starting to get the hang of coordinating the two implants in the chest of his suit to get the desired result. Partway through, Dr. Takeda explained that the boots on the costume included repulsor generators, which would allow him to fly.
"I've dialed back the thrust for this training run, so you don't hurt yourself. Go ahead and give it a try!"
Jon was able to use the thrusters to fly around the room. He only crashed a few times, and the inertial dampener blocked the impact each time. Finally, worn out from all the new experience, Jon floated down to a landing.
"That was great work today, Jon! Another few days and you'll be as comfortable using this suit as you are with your own body!"
Jon wished that his own body felt more like himself, given that he was apparently saddled with a bunch of surprise behavior changes. But he forced himself to let that go for now. He had to admit, flying around had felt awesome!
"So, what do we do now?"
"Take off the suit and take a break! You've earned some relaxation. How about--"
Suddenly Dr. Takeda's phone started beeping. He pulled it out and looked at the screen.
"Oh, no!"
"What's wrong?"
"There's a plane in trouble just south of the city. Triple engine failure just after takeoff! They'll never make it back to the airport!"
Jon set his lips and squared his shoulders. "This looks like a job for Supergirl!"
