"I'd like to meet my new family. I'll have plenty of time to get used to the equipment later."
"Wonderful!" said the doctor. She stared at Mr. Jones until the big man sighed, nodded, and left the room.
"Now, I was hoping you would get to meet them this evening, so I've gotten everything prepared. Why don't you get changed while I find your things?"
Jon did so, putting on a cute ensemble that included a white shirt layered under a pink sweater, a light pink and white plaid skirt, and (as was apparently required now), a pair of heels -- in this case, pink three-inch mary janes.
As he was completing the look with a pair of glasses, Dr, Bradford had returned carrying a small purse. "This should be everything you need. Take a look."
He did so, and quickly found a school ID card from his own school, Lake Point High. That was a relief. At least he'd be going to the same school, so he could see his friends, even if they didn't know who he was. Then he looked at the name on the card.
"Linda Lee Danvers?" he asked skeptically.
"Yes, that's the name of your secret identity. We couldn't have you running around calling yourself 'Jon', now could we?"
"Yeah, I suppose that makes sense. Still, the name is a little on the nose, isn't it?"
Dr. Bradford shrugged. "Most people won't care. And for those who do, it'll be a nice little inside joke. So, are you ready to meet your new family?"
Jon took a deep breath, glanced at his perpetually-smiling face in the mirror, and nodded. "Okay, let's do this!"
