Even as the words escaped Allyson's lips, she wanted to take them back. She watched as Karen's face fell with each sentence. It was true, she had been dating Ben for a year, but they had only done 'it' once in all that time, and it had only been 2 weeks ago. And, truth be told, it hadn't been what she had expected. There was no gentleness, only teenage lust. And the entire time she had been with Ben, she had always entertained thoughts of her best friend, Karen.
But she couldn't risk losing that friendship. It seemed as though Karen returned the feelings that she secretly harbored for the girl, but it still wasn't something she was willing to risk. Too much was lost when two best friends started dating.
"I'm sorry Karen...I can't be your girlfriend." - No matter how much I want to. Allyson silently tacked on, "I mean, what would everyone say. Don't take this the wrong way, it's cool with me if you're a lesbian and everything, but I'm not and I don't really want everyone to think that I am." and with that, Allyson spun on her heel and walked away from Karen.
Karen paused there, unsure of what to think. She knew what the lip balm was capable of, and, so far, none of the powers of the stone had failed, so why had the lip balm?
She watched her retreating, now female, friend's backside as she walked briskly away from the disappointed girl, "What the heck is going on here?" Karen said to herself, almost mesmerized by the swaying of Allyson's hips. She finally broke her stare away. The twice damned lip gloss had made Allyson too perfect for her and she had to have that young woman somehow
