"Uhh," said Jon. "I have to speak to the patient... Mr. Madison?" she said.
Jon's grandfather didn't respond.
"There's no way he'll be waking up for the next couple of hours," said the doctor. "You may as well go home now... you've worked enough overtime lately."
Jon agreed, trying to pretend that she belonged there, but didn't have any idea where to go. She left the hospital and immediately got out her wallet. Fortunately, it had a driver's license in it, and an address. Some people gave her strange looks as she wandered up and down the parking lot, but eventually she found her car. There were maps of the area inside, and she was able to follow them and make her way "home".
But she still wondered. What happened to the stone? Why didn't it travel with her? Perhaps two of the stone couldn't exist in the same time period? Why hadn't she been sent to the past as a boy? Did this nurse magically appear from nowhere, or was she taking over the role of some person who already existed? And if so, how would she deal with her life?
The only thing to do would be to wait for the next day when she could talk to her grandfather again. Until then, she'd have to be a woman....
