As Jon pulled on the jockstrap, he began to feel dizzy and felt a breeze against his face.
He looked up and saw he was flying across a sheet of ice. He was skating and skating fast, but he wasn't in a hockey game. He was a speedskater. Jon couldn't believe how fast he was going as he zipped around the ice in huge, powerful strides.
Jon knew not to break form, but he was able to see that he was wearing a dark blue spandex suit from head to toe. He could even feel a spandex hood over his head.
Jon heard a bell and knew that meant he was on his final lap. As he swept his hand in front of him, Jon noticed the black skin on his fingers sticking out from his suit.
When he cruised passed the scoreboard, he saw that it read "DAVIS - USA" and he realized that was because he was Shani Davis, an American speedskater. Jon finished the race and looked up at his time. 139.435, not bad, he thought, have to see if that holds up. At first, Jon was shocked that he knew that, but it seemed to make sense to him. That was a pretty good time for the sprint, he thought.
Now that he had examined his time, he wanted to examine his body. Walking out of the arena towards the "green room" where athletes waited for the other skaters to compete, Jon stopped when he caught a glimpse of himself in a mirror in the hallway.
Jon was a little surprised that he had become a black skater, he couldn't help but notice that he hadn't seen any other African-Americans in the arena. He pulled the hood off his head and began to unzip his speed suit, impressed at his strong pecs.
"Can't get enough of yourself, eh, Shani?" he heard a voice yell.
Jon turned around and saw another man walking by in a red and white speed suit.
"Just taking a look at what a champ looks like, Denny," Jon responded, surprising himself that he knew the other skater's name.
