Jon dumped the change out of the box and into his hand. Then he tossed the stone on the bed, so that if he accidentally made a wish, it wouldn't be granted.
Jon thought about Karyn's accidental wish. He wanted to help her get back to normal. "I wish I could think of a way to help Karyn," he said. Jon was shocked when the feeling to turn away came over him. He could feel the change warming up in his hand. And out of the corner of his eye, he saw a bright white flash of light.
Apparently, the box gave things within it the power of the stone.
Jon held up one of the quarters between his thumb and finger. He smiled. "With just this coin, I can wish for anything." But then he thought about how much trouble it would cause. One stone was easy to handle. But a handfull of change? What if he lost them? The stone looked unique. But one quarter looks like all the other quarters. Same thing with the dimes and nickels. It would be difficult or even impossible to tell the difference.
So, until he could figure out what to do, Jon stuffed the stone and the change into the plastic bag. Then stuffed the bag in his pocket.
He looked at the empty box in his hand, wondering what to do with it.
