"Good at math and science?" Jay asked. "Well, sure. Why wouldn't I be?"
Jon felt relieved. At least it seemed that his friends weren't totally losing themselves to whatever this was.
"I mean, someone has to be smart enough to figure out the perfect perfume formula," Jay said.
Jon turned towards him so fast, he thought he might have heard his neck crack. "What?"
"Well, yeah. You can't have girls figure that stuff out. What do they know about perfume?"
It looked like Jon's hopes were dashed. Sure, Jay kept his smarts, but he was using them in a totally different way. Jay was always interested in perfecting society through science, not figure out a way to perfect make-up products.
Jon stood up from the sofa. "Where are you going?" Tim asked, as he stopped painting his toenails for a moment and looked over at Jon.
"I just need some air," he said. Then he made his way to the patio doors and went out into the backyard. It was still a little early in the evening, so the sun hadn't yet gone down, but it was close. He breathed in the fresh air, then took a moment to look around the neighborhood, seeing some people in their backyards, doing various things. Were they changed too, or was it just his friends who were changing?
