Jon had all but forgotten about his errant wish the next morning. Everything seemed OK, so why worry? He rolled out of bed and threw on some gym shorts and a t-shirt to make his way to the bathroom to shower. He was padding down the hallway, and stopped in his tracks when something caught his eye.
Next to the bathroom door was another door. A door that hadn't been there before. The hallway didn't seem any longer, but somehow the door fit. Like some kind of closet had just appeared overnight. Jon bit his lip, knowing full well where this thing probably came from. But what was it? He slowly opened the door.
A tanning bed? Why on Earth would the stone decide to give his house an impossible room with a weird looking tanning bed inside? It definitely wasn't like any tanning bed Jon had ever seen (not that he'd seen very many in his life), with sparkles and odd meters and controls. Maybe he should get the stone and just get rid of this thing...
As he was studying the tanning bed, he heard more footsteps in the hall. His parents had noticed their son's curious stares and came to see what was going on.
"What in the world?" His father said.
"Where did this come from?" His mom said. It looked like they too had just gotten up, Linda in her bathrobe and Roger in his pajamas.
"I have no idea. I just came out here and saw this!" Jon said.
"It looks expensive," Roger said, "This better not be some tricky sales pitch!"
That wasn't quite the reaction Jon was expecting. They were surprised to see the tanning bed, but didn't seem at all shocked by the utter impossibility of it all. Hearing the commotion, Zoe emerged from her room. She took one look at the tanning bed, rolled her eyes and grunted, then continued on to the kitchen for breakfast.
"Well maybe there's a number on it, we can call the company!" Linda said.
Roger continued staring at it. He walked up and put his hand on the top.
"It's warm. Strange. And all these dials and buttons." He punched a few with a bemused expression, the contraption beeped a few times. "Seems pretty solidly made though, definitely not a cheap import!" He cautiously pressed his hands on the plastic bed. Then he turned and sat, swung his legs up, and laid down inside.
"Roger, what in the world are you doing?"
"Just checking it out. This isn't so bad! You should try it honey - you're always complaining about not getting enough sunlight around here!"
Roger gave a hearty chuckle, and before he could sit back up, the top of the tanning bed quickly swung shut.
"Woah!" Roger yelped, "OK, guess that's enough for me..." He started to push on the top, but it wouldn't budge.
"That's not funny, Roger. Quit fooling around!"
"I'm not fooling around! It's stuck! Give me a hand, will ya?"
Before Jon or his mother could approach, there was a loud click and deep buzz, and the lights inside flickered on. A bright blue glow engulfed the cabinet, too bright to see anything inside. The light grew brighter and the buzzing grew louder.
"Woah! Bright!" Roger shouted. "The light is so... so warm. And tingly. I feel. I feeeeeellllll funnnnyyyyyy..."
