The five of them shrugged and followed the men who lead them to a black people carrier and told them to get in. Obeying, they clambered in, Sarah and Biff sitting together and Trevor, Karyn and Jon forming a separate group. The men were silent as they drove.
"Wonder where they're taking us?" Whispered Karyn.
Trevor shrugged "Who knows, just hope it's far from here so we're away from school."
Jon nodded. "That'd be embarrassing. Remember what the principal said - they're randomly assigning who we'll be - what if one of us two is made the mother?" Trevor shuddered at thought.
"Or worse - what if they make us be the cheerleader daughter?" He grimaced.
They continued to chat, loosing all perspective of time and when the car pulled up at a house it was now early evening to their surprise. Confused the five of them got out and waited next to the car. They appeared to be in an ordinary street, and at each house was an identical car next to which stood other groups of teens like theirselves. One of the men approached them carrying five plain envelopes which he'd shuffled and handed to them.
"Don't open them yet," he instructed, handing them the keys to the house, "Please go inside and sit in the living room and wait for us to tell you to open them. They contain your new identities. After you've read them you'll have free reign of the house where you'll find everything you need for your new lives."
The five of them looked at each other confused, but obeyed and headed up the path to the house. They found the living room easily and took their seats, Biff and Sarah sprawling out on the couch, Trevor nabbing an arm chair and Jon and Karyn taking the other arm chair, Karyn perching on the arm. They looked at each other warily, each fingering their envelopes. Before any of them could speak, the TV turned itself on and a man dressed like their escorts appeared on screen.
"Welcome participants," he announced, "I'm sure you're all dying to know what is in store for you. You may all now open your envelopes. Please read the data packs carefully as these will be you from now on - you may not swap under any circumstance. You will have the rest of the day to yourselves to acclimatise to your new lives. We will make another announcement at 10am tomorrow to inform you further on what is in store for you. Thank You." And with that the TV turned off.
They blinked in shock and looked back at their envelopes. Nervously they tore them open and read the first sheet. Jon went pale seeing who he was to be now...
