"It's my room!" shouted Fred. "I live here! How did you take away my room?!"
The other kid looked confused but backed away from Fred. "Mom, Dad! There's a strange boy in my room!" The kid ran out into the hall while Fred looked around the strange room. But before Fred could do anything the other kid came back with Fred's parents, or at least they looked like his parents. They didn't seem to recognize Fred at all. They were treating the stranger like their son!
"Sarah, stay back," said Fred's mother to the kid. Then he realized it was a girl, not a boy. A blonde girl. Who looked quite a bit like Sarah, like a younger Sarah. How did Sarah take his place?
What had happened? All he had said was "I wish that..." Of course! Something had happened. Something had made his wish come true. Could he make another wish?
"I wish I did have parents! I wish I had a Mom and Dad again!"
Nothing happened, since Fred didn't know that wishes couldn't be reversed.
"I wish you knew who I was!"
A brief look of confusion passed over everyone's faces as wish #2 took effect. Then Fred's mother said "Of course we know who you are. You used to be our son Fred until you wished it away."
"You used to be my cousin," said Sarah, "but you're not related to us any more. You made me take your place!"
"I don't know what I did but it's not my fault." Fred liked saying that when confronted by adults. "It's not! I can make it better by making wishes, right? I wish I had a Mom and Dad again! I wish I had a Mom! I wish I had a Dad!"
The second of these wishes managed to take effect (#3 overall). Fred could not have "parents" in the plural but wishing for only one would be okay. The next wish couldn't.
"Oh, Fred!" said his mother. "What happened to you and to us? This is all crazy!"
"Am I your son?" asked Fred.
"Of course you are! How could you ever not be my son?"
"Well, he's not my son," said Fred's dad. "He used to be but he isn't now."
"I can fix this! I wish I'm your son again!" said Fred.
Wish #4 took effect. But since Fred's wishes limited him to having one parent, that parent being a Mom, not only was he no longer the son of his original mother, Fred's dad suddenly transformed into a woman....
