Suddenly, Jon heard someone knocking on his bedroom door. Then he heard his mom say "Are you up?" It was almost ten o'clock at night, so he could have been asleep.
Jon quickly stashed the stone away under his pillow as he heard his door being opened. He turned back to see that his mom had poked her head in and was smiling. Then she opened the door all the way and walked over to where he was sitting and sat right next to him on the bed.
This wasn't good. Jon knew that when his mom acted this way, that it was because she had something important to tell him, and it was usually bad news.
But what came next was completely out of the blue.
