The teenage girl who had a minute ago been Officer Tim Bradley shook her head as she became aware of her surroundings. It surprised her to find herself in the driver's seat of a police car. After all, she was just Tina, a normal 14 year old girl who had no business being behind the wheel. Yet, something in the back of her mind told her that she knew how to drive.
"Awesome!" She smiled to herself. Her parents would just die if they could see what she was about to do, but it would only serve them right for being such drab fuddy-duddies. Turning the key in the ignition, she started up the car and pulled out onto the road. As a rather petite teen, she had a difficult time reaching the pedals and watching the road simultaneously, but she managed alright.
"Now, where should I go?" She asked herself. Suddenly, a hint of the light that had transformed her flashed across her eyes as it filled her mind with suggestions. Her mouth turned up in a mischievous smile. "Well, I guess the police station will be missing their car soon. I might as well bring it to them."
Elsewhere, a teen girl named Laura had just pulled up in front of her house. She had to laugh. Driving was fun! Too bad all the adults in town were such stuffy killjoys. They would never approve of what she had just done, and that thrilled her somehow.
Getting out of the car, she headed into the house. "I'm home!" She called out.
The sound of her voice brought Nadine from her room. Seeing the unfamiliar girl in her house, she stopped.
"Who are you?" She asked. "I think you have the wrong house."
Laura glanced around and shrugged. "Looks about right to me."
Puzzled, Nadine walked over to her. "I think you're mistaken. This is my house."
The girl grinned. "So what? It's my house too."
Now Nadine was getting annoyed at this intruder. It was bad enough dealing with the evils of high-school life. Now, she had to deal with some disrespectful brat in her own home. "Look, kid. If you don't leave right now, I'm gonna have to call the police."
The smile left Laura's face as she faced her former daughter. "Well I don't like you telling me what to do. I'm gonna do whatever I want, and you can't stop me!"
Suddenly, her eyes began to glow. Nadine's anger turned to fear, and she jumped back. A demon! She always knew they would come for her someday, though she had never thought they would manifest themselves so directly. Thinking quickly, she tried to remember what she was supposed to do to drive out this evil spirit. Whatever it could be, it probably did not include running away screaming. Setting her feet, she faced her foe and prepared to do battle.
It was a valiant effort, but whether or not she would have succeeded, she was too slow. Light shot from Laura's eyes and engulfed her. When it faded, there stood a younger 14 year old girl who looked like a mix of the original Amy and Nadine, dressed a bit more like a girl her age. "Huh? What's going on?"
Laura looked confused, but she lost interest and went to the kitchen to raid the fridge.
Nadine shook her head. "What was I doing? Maybe I was going out." Glancing at the clock, she could see that it was late, too late for going out. She snorted. So what? She was going to do what she wanted to do and nobody could stop her. So, going to the front door, she marched outside and headed down the sidewalk.
Meanwhile, Amy had reached her destination. For a while, she just stood there staring at the mansion-sized house. It belonged to one of her father's colleagues. Right now, her parents and several other rich couples were gathered inside, talking about who-knows-what, probably money or something.
Marching up to the door, Amy rang the doorbell. Eventually, a grey-haired man in a black suit answered. "May I help you, miss?"
Amy gawked for a moment. A butler? Who in the world had a butler these days?
"I want to come inside."
The butler raised an eyebrow but smiled politely. "I'm sorry, young miss. I can't let you in. My employer is hosting a very important dinner, and he must not be disturbed."
Amy rolled her eyes. Here was another adult standing in her way! "I want to come inside, now."
One bright flash later, a pretty, brown-haired girl of 14 held the door open. "Sure, whatever," she mumbled.
Amy smiled. "Thank you." And pausing, added, "Nice outfit. Ready for Hogwarts?"
The other girl glanced down at her neat uniform dress with its pleated skirt and elbow-length sleeves. Below that, she wore black socks and polished Mary-Jane shoes. She tossed her long, straight hair dismissively. "Hilarious. The grownups make me wear this. I really hate it, but it's part of the job."
Amy gave a sympathetic nod. "Don't worry. Soon, they won't be telling you what to do anymore."
Brushing past the butler girl, she followed the sound of dull conversation until she reached the dining room. Without hesitation, she pushed open the door and strode inside.
