Thinking that he should get away from his mother as well, before a wish from her mind possibly popped in his head, Jon started to leave the kitchen.
And fortunately for him, his mother's mind kept silent, at least as far as wishes went. At first, Jon had this craving for hot cocoa, but as he left the kitchen and made his way out of the house (quietly, so that his mom didn't know that he left), those thoughts drifted from his mind.
He took a deep breath and sighed with relief, as he stood on his front lawn.
But just because he was far enough away from Karyn and his mom, it didn't mean that he was far enough away from other people. He was, in fact, in a neighborhood filled with families, not to mention next to a fairly busy street. There was no one near him at the moment, but that could soon change. If he was going to make a wish without being influenced by anyone else's thoughts, then now was the time to make it.
He clutched the stone, intending on making a wish to transport him to an isolated place (or something along those lines), but just as he began to state his wish, his thoughts were influenced by another person, in much the same way that his thoughts were influenced by Karyn. And when he made his wish, it was a wish that the person was thinking in their head.
