On the way to the Farber house, Jon asked his mother something. "That sheet of paper you were looking at - what is it?"
"Oh, it just shows all the families involved in the project. Do you want to see it?" she asked.
"Okay," he said, and she handed it to him.
On the sheet was a pair of lists (on the back was a list of the members of the Farber family). On the left side was the family that would be doing the "teaching" and on the right side was the corresponding family that would be "taught". He looked at the families involved:
FARBER FAMILY GIBSON FAMILY
MCMILLAN FAMILY FERGUSON FAMILY
MEADOWS FAMILY BLAKE FAMILY
SANDERS FAMILY LEESON FAMILY
etc.
Jon looked down through the lists and discovered something odd. For some reason, all of the "teacher" families had teens in them that were part of the "popular" crowd at his school. Steve Farber, Sarah McMillan, Biff Meadows, Tiffany Sanders, etc. Was that on purpose, or was it just coincidence. He looked at the "student" families. Nadine Ferguson was a Baptist prude. Trevor Blake was a Goth boy, Kyla Leeson was a nerd. They all seemed to be social outcasts. Well, except for him, right? Jon may not have fit into any specific crowd, but he didn't think of himself as an outcast.
"Okay, we're here," Jon's dad said, pulling into the Farbers' driveway.
