Molly turned back to her mommy, who was holding out money to her. "We'd better get her back to bed. Good night, Molly ..."
Molly looked at her, blankly. But then unexpectedly said "My pleasure, Mrs. Stevens," before taking the money.
She felt confused. Mrs. Stevens was what Mommy was called, so why was she calling her that?
"I'd better get home," Molly said, heading toward the door. She didn't know why, but she had this overwhelming urge to leave the house.
As she left, she glanced over her shoulder and watched as her daddy came back out of the kitchen with Melony, who was drinking water out of a glass.
