Just as Steve left the house, his mother Suzie Farber walked down the stairs. She did a double-take, looking at the person she thought was her son walking out the front door. Was he wearing a skirt and high heels? No, she must have imagined that.
Steve got onto the school bus, bracing himself for the usual onslaught of ridicule. But for some reason, he didn't get it today. Instead, everyone seemed confused and shocked. Almost as if they had never seen him dress as a girl before. He had a strange feeling at the back of his mind that it was justifiable. But he had no idea why.
