Jon stretched as he heard his alarm clock go off. It was time to get up for school. Usually at this time he could hear vibrations coming from his sister's room, from her loud metal music. But today, it was totally quiet. That was strange. But maybe she just wasn't up yet.
He got out of bed and grabbed for the stone. Yeah, it was exactly where he left it the previous day. Seeing it brought back memories of that careless wish he made. The one about wishing for something interesting. He wondered if anything even happened yet.
His attention drifted back towards the awkward silence. Perhaps that had something to do with his wish? It seemed unlikely. Silence wasn't exactly "interesting". But maybe it was a side effect of what was really happening, if anything special was happening at all.
Jon shook his head, then put the stone in his nightstand drawer. Then he left his bedroom to go use the bathroom. If he had lingered in the hall a bit longer, though, he might have noticed that the family portrait hanging on the wall had changed, as it now showed three teenage Goth girls and himself. But he was too anxious to pee to pay it any attention.
