I wandered into the city center, gauking at all the fantasy people arrayed about me, looking for Suzie. I got turned around very quickly in this megalopolis of dragons and elves. I found myself wandering untill I came to an open patch of pavement in the city center. There were very few people in that area so I went inside to get my berings.

As soon as I steped into that open space I felt vunlrable. As if some sort of protection had been striped away from me. I was looking to see who else was in this open area when I was grabed from behind and pulled back onto the street.

Moments after I left the area, a pair of explosions burst from the ground where I had been standing. I felt safer again now that I was on the street, but wanted to see who had grabed me.

It was Suzie. She started to explain what had just happend. "Leave it to you to step into a player killer arena your fist day in the game. When you go into an arena you can fight other player characters, normally you can't."

That explained what that feeling of being vulrable was, and what those explostions were. "Why would they build that?"

Suzie got an annoyed look on her face, "Because some people like fighting other people. Also it is a way to earn some coin and some items if you get good at it. People are allowed to take any money you have on you, and one item of their choice off your body when you die before you can respawn."

I thought about that for a moment. "hmm. Makes sence when you put it that way. I'm guessing that we should stay out of those areas for the time being then."

"Not necessaryly. The Gods are running a tournament for new adventurers soon. No one above level 3 will be allowed to join. They have a doubles division too..."

"Why would we want to do that?" I asked picking up the hint.

"Because the gods are going to give some unique gear to the winners of the tournament. Of course if we want to join we will need to level up to three and we will need to watch out for people who have given low level people really good gear. So what do you think, want to join the tournament?"

It was a tough call, on one hand we could lose money and items, on the other hand getting gear from the gods, and fighting side by side with Suzie was tempting.
