"Well, that's disappointing," Zoe frowned, seeing that nothing seemed to happen.
"Give me that!" Karyn snapped, taking the stone from her. "You're obviously too immature to use this thing."
"Hey, Zoe. What are you all doing in here?" came a voice from the hall. But it was one that none of them were familiar with.
Zoe turned and saw two Goth girls she didn't know. Although ... there did seem to be something familiar about them. Like maybe she had seen them around school before. Maybe in some of her classes? Then it dawned on her. The one that spoke was Krystal Mason, an all-around do-gooder who was on the student council. And behind her was Brooke Porter, Krystal's best friend, who was really into causes, like protecting animals, trees, and just the environment in general. Kind of a hippie, Zoe guessed. But to see both of them like this ... Zoe figured that they weren't like that anymore.
"Who are you two?" Jon asked.
Krystal rolled her heavily black-lined eyes. "Jeez, is your brother always this dense, Zoe? I mean, we've been over at your house countless times over the last few months."
Zoe wasn't sure what to say to that. Sure, she was pleased to have two new friends, but she knew next to nothing about these two. Athena was feeling the same way.
