They had only walked a block, but it already seemed to Jon like the longest walk of his life. His father, now insisting that his name was Ashley, was clinging to his arm the whole way. If he wasn't currently overcome with embarrassment he probably would've been impressed with his dad's coordination. He had no problem mincing along the sidewalk his high heels while at the same time using his free hand to text on a pink phone.
Suddenly, Ashley stopped. Jon, staring at the sidewalk, kept going - but his dad's tight grip caused him to swing around and come face-to-face with his father. His nose was overwhelmed with the smell of perfume. Ashley, completely misreading his son, giggled and poked him in the stomach with his phone.
"Easy Mister! You think I'm just gonna make out with you right here on the sidewalk? I'm not that kind of girl!"
Jon recoiled. That wasn't-
"Besides, Biff and Sarah are gonna be here any minute to pick us up!"
"Biff? Sarah? You mean you're friends with them?"
Ashley laughed. "Well, it's hard not to be bff's with someone who's just like you. Sarah's my twin sister, after all."
"Twin sister?" Jon checked the sidewalk to see where his jaw landed.
"Aw, babe, it's soo cute when you act like we don't look exactly the same. Especially since it's obvious I'm the prettier one."
Jon was still trying to process that information when a car pulled up to the curb next to them. Ashley grabbed Jon's hand again and pulled him into the back seat. Sarah was sitting shotgun, in an outfit identical to what Jon's dad was wearing. They leaned close to each other and Sarah whipped out her phone as the two wasted no time in taking a duck-lipped selfie.
"Hashtag twinsies!" Ashley giggled. Biff, from the drivers seat, flashed a smile at Ashley, and a scowl at Jon. Sarah gave a similar look.
"I still don't know what you see in that dweeb," Sarah said to Ashley in a barely-concealed whisper.
Ashley rolled his eyes. "Whatever. You may go for the hunks, but I go for the brains. You said you'd be nice now that we're official!"
Jon stared out the window and tried to drown out the conversation. He'd almost managed to distract himself, when he held a firm hand on his knee. When would this ride be over?!
