As Jon watched the new Karen run off into the distance, he received a text from her.
"Sorry, I had to get away, all this new info about my new life is a lot to take in. We'll meet up later, k?"
Jon confirmed. He was feeling a bit better now that he was alone, less restricted, more powerful? "I guess I am a loner" mused Jon.
Jon also wanted to take the time to get through all the notifications that had popped up after their little experiment:
Achievement - "You couldn't resist, could you? ;)" -Get charmed to do something
Achievement - " Life-changing" -Use Edit on someone for the first time
These achievements allowed Jon to Observe Charms, and gave a bit of bonus exp to the Edit skill respectively.
Jon sighed, he was still quite a way off levelling up again and now he had no mana. He tried Observing things on his way back home, but they only told him basic information that he already knew and he got minimal exp slightly more than he did Observing objects at school but still not enough to level up his Observe skill. He knew he could do so much more but it seemed so far away right now.
Jon dropped his school stuff at home. Jon looked in his room for the stone but it was gone. A new quest popped up:
Quest - Find the location of the Almighty stone
Jon accepted it but it gave no indication on what to do next. He picked up a fire extinguisher and headed out.His siblings seemed to be out somewhere and his Mother was relaxing in front of the TV after a long shift at work so no one noticed him carrying a mini fire extinguisher out.
He headed over to Karyn's, nope not the Black house, the DeVries place Jon remembered as he doubled back on himself. He called it a place because it was hard to imagine someone living there, It was a creepy and creaking crypt that looked as if it had been lifted straight out of a horror film and placed in the middle of suburbia. It seemed much older than the other houses around which made it stick out like a sore thumb. The gnarled and twisted willow tree that framed it and its occult obsessed occupants only spooked people out further. It was having this effect on Jon as he approached and knocked on the door.
"'Bout time, Jon-boy!!" Karen exclaimed as she dragged him inside "I've been waiting to test this for so long"
"It's been less than an hour" Jon replied
"Not for Miss DeVries here" Karen pointed at herself "I've been wanting magic to be real for as long as I can remember, did you change anything else about me?"
"No, I could only change 2 things, your name and your.. subclass I think, why?"
"I thought so, it's just that I can't use charm anymore" Karen answered dejectedly. "I think the spells are connected to those qualities"
"I think you might be right, I did always like sneaking in stealth games"
"Of course I'm right! I told you I've been studying this for years"
"Ok, Wicked witch of the west, what else do you know?"
"Observe seems to be a spell everybody has because that's how humans learn and Class seems to give a passive boost to experience in some way"
"Yeah, That explains what I felt earlier, its best when we're alone and when fewer people are around"
They had reached Karen's room. It was similar to Karen's old room but there were a lot more occult-themed items about.
"Flame on!" Karen grinned as her hands went up in flames.
They both got an achievement.
Achievement - "Looking hot!" Using/viewing magical fire for the first time
Jon and Karen spent the evening honing their magic. Jon after learning so much about magic found he could Observe more of other people's spells. Karen levelled up till she could throw fireballs. They found out that her occult subclass meant she could make more effective magic potions now but that would take awhile. Besides, Karen was having too much fun trying to get the Firestarter achievement and watching Jon panic when the fires got too big. The fire extinguisher came in very handy. But little did they know, other residents were also discovering their powers that night...
